Pascoe father and son take on 5 Nations BRX challenge

Father and son Steve Pascoe and Paul Pascoe are the latest drivers to confirm their participation in the next rounds of the Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy Presented by Cooper Tires. The duo will compete at the home of rallycross Lydden Hill on 5/6 December in Retro Rallycross in a pair of Cosworth-powered Fords.

Paul will take the wheel of a genuine Sierra Cosworth that rolled off the production line in the mid-eighties. The shell needed extensive work to save it from tin worm, which took a year of late nights replacing the rusted panels with new steel, and strengthening to cope with the demands of rallycross. Powered by a Cosworth YB engine, the Sierra has been developed over the last 12 months and looks set to be as competitive as the Escort that has shown promise on the two events it has taken part in so far in 2020.

Paul raced a 205 GTI Stock Hatch prior to moving to Ireland in 2004.  He continued to race the Peugeot before moving to Supercars in the Irish Rallycross Championship where he finished third in the Supercar Championship on two occasions.

Steve from Teston in Kent has raced for over 50 years in hot-rods and rallycross and at the tender age of 75 shows no sign of slowing down.  He raced a turbocharged VW Beetle in the eighties that was fast but very unreliable and over the past 20 years has also raced a 205 GTi stock hatch together with a few outings in a Subaru Supercar in Ireland. He now comes out of retirement to race in Retro Rallycross at the wheel of an ex-rally group A spec Mk5 Ford Escort which benefits from a turbocharged Cosworth YB engine and rear wheel drive.

Previously competing in the BTRDA championship as part of the development of the cars for rallycross, they are now looking forward to making their debut together in Retro Rallycross next month and receive welcome support from sponsors Diamondbrite, which manufactures chemicals for cars, caravans, motorhomes and motorcycles.

“Rallycross has been a major part of our family’s life for longer than we can remember,”said Steve.  “Racing with my son at the Home of Rallycross in a pair of Retro Fords is something we are both looking forward to, as are our sponsors Diamondbrite.”

The two day event will go ahead under Elite classification which means that although racing will be allowed, even under current lockdown measures, spectators will unfortunately not be allowed.
