Circuit racer Nick Swift will return to rallycross this weekend at Lydden Hill when he takes over the wheel of the Terry Moore Mini on bank holiday Monday.
Nick’s rallycross competition experience dates to the 1980’s when, from the age of 16 he drove in the Minicross support section at the Motorquip British Rallycross Grand Prix at Brands Hatch and the early teac events at Lydden Hill.
More used to circuit racing these days, Nick said “it’s been many years since I’ve bounced over bumps on a rallycross track but am very much looking forward to getting back behind the wheel, Terry and the Swift family have been good friends for many years”
Nick’s father Glyn Swift was one of the first to compete in a Mini in rallycross (pictured) contesting the first ever rallycross event that was held at the Lydden Hill circuit in 1967.
Swiftune have provided the power for many household names over the decades including Keith Ripp, Nicky Fulton, Ian Thompson and Barry Hathaway.
Retro Rallycross manager Shirley Gibson said “it will be a huge pleasure to welcome Nick to Retro Rallycross, I remember Glyn from his Autocross and rallycross days. I just hope Terry manages to keep it in one piece on Saturday ready for Nick’s drive on Monday. The classic Mini is always a crowd pleaser”
