Round five of the Retro Rallycross Championship took place at Lydden Hill on 17th August that saw Charlie French end the day with maximum points to extend his lead in the Super Retro category.
Barry Stewart (Porsche) set an early challenge, with Pat Doran (Xtrac Escort) looking to be the ones to put in the closest challenge but it was the championship leader, Charlie French (Ford Escort) who set the fastest times in the heats to take pole position in the final.

Stuart Emery, in his first Retro season impressed with the mighty Volvo 242 in the first qualifying heats where he chased Barry Stewart hard, hounding the Porsche driver to the flag.
In the final Charlie French set the pace off the line, staying ahead of Barry Stewart to the flag with Allan Tapscott taking third place.

Technical Issues ended the day early for Stuart Emery, who said “I had a good start in the first heats, I’m getting the hang of getting this thing off the line now, I tucked in behind Barry to try and stick with him as much as I could, and it turned out I was stuck with him for the whole race. This car is a handful and has been a steep learning curve but I’m starting to get a bit of confidence with this car now. Confidence is the key with this car because it is completely different to anything I’ve driven before”.
In the Retro Rallycross Category, Dan Swayland scored the fastest times all day but failed to make the final due to amalgamation of classes ordered by the event organisers. Tony Lynch (Toyota MR2) finish first, Simon Hart (Ford Escort) was second leaving a disappointed Dan Swayland to take the third place points.

The 5 Nations championship now takes a break, reconvening at Pembrey Race Circuit on October 5/6 where Retro Rallycross will contest rounds 6 and 7.
