Jobb secures inaugural Retro RX four-wheel drive title and Kenneth Hansen Cup

Long-time four-wheel drive rallycross competitor Derrick Jobb secured the Kenneth Hansen Cup in the final round for the Group B and four-wheel drive sub category of the 2018 Retro Rallycross Championship at Pembrey Circuit in South Wales last month.

Joining the two-wheel drive Retro RX racers in four of the seven Retro Rallycross rounds this season, the four-wheel drive class has enjoyed entries from a number of iconic four-wheel drive machines, including Roger Thomas in two different MG Metro 6R4s and Ford RS200 driver Steve Harris.

But, proving that event consistency is key, Ford Escort Cosworth racer Jobb became the first driver win the title and will be awarded the Kenneth Hansen Cup for his efforts, having contested all events and scored the most points.

“I’m really happy to be back rallycrossing and this Championship gave me the opportunity to build up the speed again,” said Jobb. “It was really well run and I thoroughly enjoyed it.”

Retro Rallycross Championship Manager Shirley Gibson is pleased with how the first season of including four-wheel drive cars in points scoring rounds has gone, and is looking forward to the future.

“The biggest challenge for Retro Rallycross is to get four-wheel drive and especially Group B cars back out on track. This was the first season that we had included a class solely for four-wheel drive and the future is most certainly looking good,” said Gibson. “With the likes of Rob Gibson, Roger Thomas, Steve Harris and Pat Doran, Dave Halford and others waiting in the wings to join us on a regular basis we are excited about the future growth of this category. Derrick did a great job this year and will become the first person to claim the Kenneth Hansen Cup.”

The four-wheel drive Retro RX competitors will be back in action at the final round of the MSA British Rallycross Championship and the Retro RX finale at Silverstone on November 4, where a number of exciting four-wheel drive and Group B entries are expected to make a guest appearance.
