Lydden Hill has hosted many fantastic Rallycross races since Vic Elford won the first event in his Porsche, and more of the same can be expected as 2015 Croft winner James Harrold returns to competition this weekend.
Volkswagen Polo racer James Harrold was forced to miss the previous round at Pembrey due to transmission troubles, but with the problems resolved, he will be right in the fight for victory at Lydden.
Porsche 911 driver Barry Stewart arrives at Lydden on the back of three consecutive victories at the double-header event at Mondello Park in Ireland and last time out at Pembrey, while Rob Gibson will be hoping for a repeat of his Lydden Hill victory in April. With one win under his belt this season, 2014 John Button Memorial Trophy winner Ray Morgan will also be hoping for victory at his home circuit.
The Green and White Mini Spares team have had a busy time since Pembrey, where Lance Foster rolled his Mini and was forced to retire. Foster races one of four Minis at Lydden Hill; Ian Shelley and Ian Biagi will all be targeting a podium finish, while Jordan Bowes returns to the driving seat for the first time since ending his weekend at the Retro Rallycross’ World Rallycross Championship appearance at Lydden Hill in May, upside down.
Regular racers Paul Smith and Danny Greaves will also take to the grid in their Volkswagen Polo and Mazda 323 respectively.
Fans are invited to visit Retro Rallycross this weekend where the magnificent John Button Memorial Trophy will be on display along with the Steve Nottage model car collection, the only one of its kind that is dedicated solely to rallycross.
Retro Rallycross founder and team principal, Shirley Gibson is looking forward to Lydden Hill and is pleased with the development of the category. “Lydden is a wonderful circuit and the August Bank Holiday is a must for any rallycross fan,” said Gibson. “Retro Rallycross has certainly made an impact on the world of motorsport this season. In addition to our World RX appearance earlier this year – where we displayed ourselves to a new audience, we have recently been involved in some exciting new projects and the future for Retro Rallycross looks very exciting.”
The second visit of the year to Lydden Hill can be watched live online via Livestream, with review programmes being aired on British Eurosport and Premier Sports following the event – listings and information will be published on the MSA British Rallycross Championship website.
