Headlining the line-up will be a collection of evocative Group B machines, with four-time British RX Champion Pat Doran driving his Ford RS200, the very car he used to win the French round of the European Rallycross Championship in 1992. He will be joined by former Euro RX rival Rob Gibson with his Metro 6R4, while Roger Thomas will also compete in a similar car.
Having won the opening round of the Retro RX series at Silverstone, Steve Harris will be in action with his Ford RS200, complete with Mark Rennison replica livery. Making the trip across the English Channel, French legend Philippe Tollemer will drive his Peugeot 205 T16, and will be joined at Silverstone by Dominique Camerino, driving a Lancia Delta. British engineer David Halford will return to Silverstone after his first competitive outing in the car in round one of Retro RX at the same circuit with his Audi Quattro S1.
Joining the four-wheel drive, fire breathing monsters will be an eclectic mix of two-wheel drive machinery from across the 50-year legacy of the sport. Former European Championship Supercar competitor John Cross will drive his Lancia Stratos, Phil Collard will be in action with his freshly restored Renault 5 and fellow Retro RX regulars Simon Hart (Ford Escort), Gary Simpson (BMW E30), Paul Smith (Volkswagen Polo) and Jason Bowes (Volkswagen Golf) and Terry Moore (Austin Mini) will all take to the circuit a number of times throughout the weekend, complimenting some of the world’s best rallycross drivers competing at the event.
In a special addition to the line-up, former European Champion Jos Sterkens will make the trip from Belgium with his glorious Ford Escort, with British driver Brian Hardman making his first Retro RX appearance with his own MkII version of Ford’s Escort.
In a special outing for a legendary car, Mike Endean, founder of transmission company Xtrac, will make a rare appearance with the Ford Escort Xtrac that six-time European Rallycross Champion Martin Schanche drove to the 1984 European title.
“We have an amazing line-up of cars for the Speedmachine Festival this weekend and I’m so excited to be able to show both new and old fans of the sport this incredible collection of wonderful machinery. It’s fantastic for us to be able to give our Retro Rallycross competitors the opportunity to drive at such showcase events, and for them to be joined by some incredible names throughout Europe,” said Retro Rallycross Promotor Shirley Gibson. “We will have some more exciting news about an international driver next week, but right now our focus is on enjoying the Speedmachine event and giving everyone a taste of what we do, and what a rich history the sport has.”
