Returning to the venue where he publicly revealed his Lancia Stratos for the first time last year, former European Championship racer John Cross is currently second in the Super Retro points, while Brian Hardman will make his debut in the Retro RX series this weekend with his Ford Escort MkII.
Phil Collard debuted his Renault 5 in the second round of the season at Lydden Hill but was blighted by driveshaft problems and will be hoping for more fortune at Pembrey on his second outing with the freshly restored machine.
Former British RX Supernational Champion Tony Lynch has switched to Retro RX for this season with a Toyota MR2 being developed by his Team Geriatric squad and is second in the Retro Rallycross sub category points, but is one of several drivers to be side-lined this weekend with technical issues. Simon Hart (Ford Escort) and Mark Finch (Ford Fiesta) will campaign their respective Fords however, as they did in the opening two rounds of the season. Paul Smith made a welcome return to Retro RX in round two and is back for more this weekend with his Volkswagen Polo at Pembrey.
Paul Easterbrooke will be forced to miss the Welsh event, as will Mini driver Terry Moore and the Group B machines, with Roger Thomas’ and Rob Gibson’s MG Metro 6R4s both suffering from technical troubles since their last outing.
“It’s a slightly smaller grid than usual for this round, we have cars with technical issues and a couple of our drivers are unwell at the moment but I look forward to seeing them return in time for the next round of the Championship,” said Retro Rallycross Promotor, Shirley Gibson. “Retro Rallycross is a closely-knit group, supportive of each other and we miss anyone who is unable to compete. Things have been very close on track this year and I can’t wait to see who comes out on top this weekend, it’s an important weekend for the Championship in terms of points. As always, I wish all of our drivers the best of luck. Pembrey Circuit is a favourite of mine and I thank Phil Davies and his team for always providing us with fabulous facilities”
