”I had every intention of competing in Retro Rallycross again this year but when dates were released for 2020 I saw that they clashed with some important family celebrations weddings etc that I had already committed to attend,” said Tony. ” I’m actually already working on being back with Retro Rallycross next year and will ensure I check the dates first, my family are my number one priority with my racing taking a back seat for the time being. I will return to racing my Ford KA in the clubman’s Championship this will give us the opportunity to take our time in preparing the Toyota in time for 2021”
Tony was able to secure his first Retro Rallycross victory at Pembrey in the second event since the team had carried out extensive improvements. The ex-rally car, sponsored by Landsail Tyres, gave a hint of its future potential at the previous outing at Lydden Hill proving that the work carried out to include a new, more powerful engine and AVO suspension system gave team geriatric the confidence that were now getting closer to challenging his closest rivals.
”We had a glimpse of what the upgraded car could do at Lydden Hill and that left us confident about what we could do at Pembrey,” he said. “We didn’t want to get carried away but from the first heat, I knew we had a car that could challenge for class honours the new engine worked like a dream”
”Winning is not everything, team geriatric are a bunch of guys who simply enjoy their racing. ” I want everyone to know that Retro Rallycross last year was the best motorsports environment we have been involved in for years and we enjoyed the Championship so much my gang can’t wait to be back. Hopefully depending how things go this year I can try and sneak a Retro round in before the end of year in Preparation for next year”
Championship Coordinator Shirley Gibson said ” Tony will be very much missed, he is a great guy who fit in so well getting along instantly with his fellow racers. We all wish Team Geriatric an enjoyable season racing the KA, I know how much he wanted to join us again this season but sadly our dates have clashed with his families social calendar. Great to hear that the plan is to do the occasional race in 2020 and make a full return in 2021.
