Lydden Hill ‘The Home Of Rallycross’ is every competitors favourite venue and the August Bank Holiday meeting is always seen as a showcase event, presenting the very best of British Rallycross to an appreciative audience of loyal spectators. Some of whom come from as many as three generations of Rallycross supporters.

Arriving back in Kent for the second time this season, the title race to find the Retro Rallycross Driver Of The Year sees the addition of yet more new contenders as the class is seen to grow with each event. The Irish contingent are here in force this weekend as we wait in anticipation to see the immaculate MK2 Escort of Tommy Graham pit his driving skills against the Willie Singleton Team in a Ford Anglia, waiting in the wings to stop them in their stride however is Irish Pole, Grzegorgz Kalinecki in his fabulous Lancia Delta Integrale. Can Rob Gibson do enough to stop the Irish invasion in his MG Metro 6R4, or will Ray Morgan, with his amazing driving skills, throw his Mk 3 Escort around in typical style on this, his home track, to fight them all off? Morgan’s talent for exciting sideways driving, the man who probably knows his way around the Lydden Hill Circuit the best, can never be ruled out of overall honours on the day.
We are delighted also to see the return of James Harrold. The popular young driver, in his beautifully prepared VW Beetle, has been very much missed by his team mates. James, who has been blighted with technical troubles that has kept the car off the track for most of the season, is another driver who performs well around Lydden Circuit as of course does Lance Foster; who can forget his 360 degree spin in front of Rob Gibson as they travelled down Hairy Hill back in March. Foster kept his cool despite this little set back and regained composure to beat the Cheshire Driver to the flag as Gibson, powerless to stop him, failed at each attempted overtaking manoeuvre that saw the little Mini grow in width as the Metro tried to come alongside.
The Retro Rallycross Team will play host to Haynes of Maidstone during the weekend in the ‘Haynes Village’ in the centre of the Paddock where there are special attractions on offer, including the book signing of Rallycross and Hot Rod star Barry Lee, a static display to include the MK1 Escort of John Taylor and WRC car of Louise Cook. Add to that familiar faces, as we welcome special star guests throughout the weekend, there is something for everyone in the Haynes area. Pop in and say hello, everyone is welcome and you never know who you might bump into.
Shirley Gibson invites those who are camping to join the Retro Team for complimentary Popcorn and Candy Floss on Sunday evening from 6.00pm. Campers and weekend ticket holders are also invited by Lydden Hill Circuit to join the VIP Paddock Party in the VIP Marquee with live entertainment from the popular local Female Vocal Duo Adjacent Two.
